Chapter 1
Lylat Wars - Sector Y - Command Bridge of the Valkyrie
Ensign Thomas Davidson stood among the Valkyrie’s operators; he reviewed his orders. The Valkyrie was to lead the Cornerian fleet and intercept the Venomian fleet at Sector Y. Mere minutes before, Andross had launched his attack on Corneria. The Cornerian army was stretched so thin that General Pepper had to call in the Star Fox team. As Captain Phoenix’s Adjutant, it was Thomas’s job to relay orders without delay.
Thomas stopped to think about Captain Phoenix. Her name was Fara and he had met her at the academy. They had studied together and while Thomas was a harder worker, Fara had much more raw skill. It was this difference that got Fara promoted to Captain. Thomas had always wondered why Fara had promoted him to Adjutant. Was it because Fara enjoyed giving him orders? Or was it because she felt sorry for him? Thomas was hoping it was due to a third reason. He always found Fara to be… special.
The door to the command bridge slid open, and Captain Phoenix walked in.
“Thomas, status report” Fara said.
“Ma’am, our orders are to intercept the Venomian fleet. They should be here at any moment. In addition, the Star Fox team has been called in to assist us. Once they have liberated Corneria, they will travel through Meteo and rendezvous with us here” Thomas answered clearly and briskly.
“Very good, relay this to the rest of the fleet”.
“Already done ma’am, the fleet is holding position awaiting the enemy”.
Thomas did this often. He knew how Fara would react and planned ahead.
“Can I offer you a cup of coffee ma’am?”
“Thank you Thomas, black please”
With Fara’s raw skill and Thomas’s knowledge of procedures, the two made an efficient team. Thomas handed Fara her coffee and she took a sip.
“Mmh, one of your best batches yet, Thomas” Fara stated keeping her nose close to the cup.
Was that a smile Thomas saw? He never had time to find out since the siren started to wail.
“The enemy fleet has entered the Sector, Captain” the radar officer stated. “27 vessels have been identified. There are 18 Dorsby- class battleships, 8 Grazan- class carriers, and one other vessel. It appears to be a unique carrier”.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, to stations” ordered Fara.
